Weekend Etsy Pick – Recycled Art With A Purpose

by TheEcoDiva on January 17, 2010

Recently everything in my world and heart has been pointing me back to my canvas and paint brush. I have now organized my art supplied but have yet to get my art flowing. In light of this,  I thought I would give kudos to those amazing Etsy artisans who are getting their tush into gear and creating amazing unique, hand-made eco-friendly artwork for us all to enjoy.

Art1_recycledartco

This cute little birdy is made by husband and wife Etsy team: recycledartco. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, hand-made and can be custom ordered with your name or the name of a loved one. Here is a bit about this artistic couple in their own words: We have been working with salvaged materials for over 10 years. We have always been tree huggers, but working with salvaged materials initially came out of necessity. We married young and worked our way through undergrad school (having two babies along the way). We are now celebrating 12 years of marriage and are working our way through grad school (with one grade schooler and one middle schooler). Life goes on and on…we are just along for the ride.

This next Etsy artisan, colesfineart creates elegant fine art pieces which are left up to the viewed to interpret and make their own. If you are at all interested in this artisans work, proceeds from any Etsy.com sale will go to help the efforts to help the families in Haiti! Art with a purpose. Many of the works you will find in this Etsy shop are crafted on eco-friendly sugar cane paper.

My final weekend Etsy pick is a very cool artisan who has connected her need to create art with her passion for inspiring people to create a better world for themselves and for those around them. The piece featured here called “The World Needs You”  is printed with soy inks on 100% recycled paper – carbon neutral printing. Plus 25% of the profits from “The World Needs You” will be donated to the ‘Rescue Ink’ – working to rescue animals from abuse and neglect.

Here is a bit about this very fabulous ecodiva:  My goal as an artist is to create art that touches people’s lives- that inspires them, encourages them, makes them think or smile. Most of my artwork stems from one of my photographs, which I re-work into these modernized interpretations. My new “Bring The Change” Collection is all about bringing attention to the problems our world is facing and encouraging people look inside themselves and become a part of the solution. Thank you so much for including our work on your fabulous website. We are new to Etsy and love the friendly and creative environment. Some of the custom pieces Etsy customers have asked us to make have become some of our favorites. Sometimes you just need a bit of inspiration and a whole new idea develops. For example, the dove featured here was inspired by a local church that was doing a charity drive to raise money. They suggested we do a cross, yes we could have done that, but we felt this was a cute take on the traditional Christian symbol of a dove with an olive branch. This piece is titled “Bringing Peace”. The recipient loved it and was thrilled beyond belief. If she had not given us the idea of the cross and something Christian, we would not have come up with this great design. Thanks again and remember…inspiration is everywhere.
